PSHP Notes: 6.24.2020

Hello PSHP Families,

I am so excited that our PSHP Yearbooks have arrived. A few of the big ensemble class pictures are fuzzy and were to have been retaken, before our abrupt stop on March 12. We apologize for that. I have the books that were group shipped. If you signed up for shipping to your house, they should be on their way soon.

Planning for Fall 2020 at PSHP

I am just at the beginning stages of planning for the fall. This will be the first time since I founded this group in 1998, that there will be limits on new members joining.  Things will look different in the fall because of CoVid19 and the pandemic that we are in.  This breaks my heart, but is necessary for the health of our PSHP students, families, and teachers.

Research is still being done, but the evidence so far suggests that singers, flutists, and recorders are super spreaders of the virus. The United Methodist Church announced on June 12 that there should be no congregational singing, choirs, and song leaders as part of indoor worship until after Phase 4. At this time it appears we will not be able to offer Singers or Mezzo Choir in the fall. We are working on virtual options for Concert Choir.

There are other adjustments in schedules, spacing, and activities that will need to be made. I will try to have a plan out by August 1. Our teachers are still working out details on how we can provide music education while following the recommendations of the local health department and protecting our families. My plan is to delay the beginning our fall classes until September or October so the schedule will be different this year.

Please be in prayers for the leaders and teachers of PSHP as we navigate these difficult issues.  We live in faith, but still have to be respectful of the danger of the CoVId19 pandemic to all.

Stay safe!
