Worship Ensemble Assignments for 11.17.2017

Band Members:

Please be listening to the CD’s I handed out to you.  It is important that we have prepared the following songs for our Christmas concert:

  1. Mary Did You Know
  2. Our Great God
  3. My Lighthouse
  4. Great Are You, Lord

Singers, I was blown away last week when we did a little bit of work using fry register and lip trills to help get some cleaner voices out of you. WHAT A SOUND!! I would really encourage you to continue to work with that kind of technique to train yourself to know what good voicing feels and sounds like to you. Remember, your body and brain will do what it has done the most. By doing focused and targeted rehearsal to get the kind of voicing you want, you can be more likely to use that kind of voice in the moment when it really counts.

If you find you need some extra help or want a couple of individual pointers, I’m usually in the fellowship hall after the combined rehearsal for lunch and prep time for afternoon classes. I’m happy to take a few minutes and do some things with you. Just come find me, or send me a message ahead of time to arrange it. heather.nelson.svs@gmail.com

Lastly, if you want a little bit of a reminder on the techniques we used in class, here are some helpful videos and reminders:

Lip trills/buzzes/bubble lips (lots of different names for the same thing)

vocal fry: starting in vocal fry and sliding up to a middle voice note

Another option: Straw exercises

We will have another combined rehearsal this Friday for “Mary, Did You Know” with the orchestra, band, and choir. I would encourage you to practice good voicing on the first verse so you can feel confident when singing that verse in rehearsal. It’s going to be great!
