My musical happy moment this week is an encore performed by Pekka Kuusisto at the BBC Proms in 2016. He plays a Finnish folk song, and even teaches the audience how to sing it along with him. Listen to how he uses the violin to provide a “pedal tone” that is like a drone, slightly out of tune because of how it’s played, and how he makes the singing the most important part of the song.
