Beginner Orchestra Cello Class from 10.28.16
Warm-Up with your bow on the open D string only
Before you play, tighten your bow. Remember the saying to help remember the direction:
“Righty tighty and lefty loosey”. When you are finished practicing loosen your bow
- Make an OK sign with your right hand
- Practice your fingers wrapping around the bow stick.
- Your index finger or pointer finger should wrap around (it looks like a fish hook) the bow grip on the bow
- Your last knuckle crease on your finger should touch your bow
- Your right thumb should curve
- Remember not to touch the hair of the bow, as it will get oily
Review the parts of the bow
Loosen your bow and put it away after your warm-up above
Another hint while you practice, is to look at the music while you are playing, unless you are memorizing a song.
