PSHP Notes for 5.6.2022

 

Hello All,

 

I am so happy that we made it to the month of May. PSHP has a lot of fun activities going on in May, so please check over this email very carefully. We have 4 Sign Up Geniuses to help facilitate planning, as well as one Yearbook Link!

 

 

 

Friday, May 6

 

1. All beginner orchestra students will meet together in the Sanctuary at 8:45 for the remainder of the year in preparation for our final concerts on May 23 and May 24.

 

2. All beginner band students will meet in the Youth Room at 8:45 for the remainder of the year in preparation for our final concerts on May 23 and May 24.

 

3. All intermediate band students will meet in the Youth Room at 10:00 for the remainder of the year in preparation for our final concerts on May 2 and May 24.

 

4. PSHP Payment Day is tomorrow for one Friday in May, plus $10 concert fee and church usage fee. Please pay the balance of your bill, so PSHP can meet all of their financial obligations. This year has been very tight financially.

 

5. Deadline to bring items for the auction baskets.

 

6. Deadline to bring items for the prize store.

 

7. Practice at noon in the Sanctuary for all high student in the combined pieces of Great I Am, The Lord Bless You, and Agnus Dei. The last two songs will be performed at PSHP Graduation on Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 at Asbury.

 

8. High School band and orchestra students can apply for a music camp scholarship . Deadline is May 24 to apply.

 

9. Teachers stop by the Payment Table for your April paycheck. Also stop by the Kitchen as there will be lunch for the adult teachers of a Taco bar. Thank you teachers!!!!

 

10. Check with your student about their student evaluations and progress reports. The student can earn a ticket or a prize if they bring back their evaluation signed by a parent.

PSHP Notes: Friday, March 25

Hello PSHP Families,

I am looking forward to meeting tomorrow!!  Woohoo.  The only Friday between now and May 20 that we are not scheduled to meet is Good Friday, April 15..

Please find attached the Handbook for concert clothing expectations and also the newly update schedule.  I have highlighted the events that have changed since the schedule was originally published in September.

RESCHEDULED EVENTS:

· Last Day to order PSHP t-shirts will be tomorrow March 25. Check out the table near the Information Desk for colors, prices and sizes. The exact cost of the t-shirts will not be known until we know the quantity of our order is since there are quantity discounts, but the cost should be between $9 and $11 dollars each.

· Student teacher’s luncheon and teacher’s luncheon will now both be April 1.

· April 29 will be a normal class schedule. The Mock Judging has been canceled this year.

· May 6 will be a normal class schedule. The Music Contest Day has been canceled this year due to our shorter year.

· Friends’ Meeting at 12:10 upstairs in Room 203. Come help us plan for Student Teacher and Adult Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on April 1, PSHP Pizza Day on April 8, prize store on May 20, our PSHP “Fun”draiser on Friday, May 20 at Asbury from 5:30-7:30 and picnic on May 27.

· Add May 20 to your calendar for a PSHP “Fun”draiser at Asbury from 5:30-7:30. We will be taking orders for hamburgers and hotdogs for our fun event, as well as carnival games!!

Hello All,
I am happy to announce that PSHP will be having a graduation for our PSHP
students, even though we didn’t officially meet this year.  We are planning
a PSHP graduation on Saturday, May 15 and our PSHP Picnic on Friday, May 28
from 11-2.  More details later about the picnic and about our plans to
return to classes in August.

Thank you so much for a great day at Music Contest last week.  The judges were very complimentary of the students and the teachers.

The next couple of weeks are very busy, so I thought an email would be helpful!  I will still send out weekly reminders, but this would be a good email to print and/or save!!

Set-Up and Clean-Up Crew

Set up crew put out all of the 11 white round tables in the Fellowship Hall as we can leave them out until after graduation.  Add in long white tables as you can.  Please leave out altar table in the middle, but pushed back to the rock wall on the west side of the platform.  Move lectern to the front part of the platform.

Clean-Up crew leave out 11 white round tables in Fellowship Hall and put up 5 long white tables for Graduate displays.  We will also need 4 long tables left out for serving tables for the graduation reception.  We will also leave chairs up on the platform area.

  • All classes will meet this Friday, but see note about 10:10 optional performance
  • Teachers will start Student Evaluations and give to student when you have finished the evaluation.  Some younger classes have offered incentives to insure they get to the parents.  Bring evaluation back with a parent signature for a ticket or a piece of candy, etc.
  • Teachers will go over judges written comments.
  • 10:10-10:40 in the Sanctuary will be a performance from the Springfield Symphony Brass Quintet

o   All students are invited, but it is up to the teacher

o   Meet at 10:00 in your regular room, then their 10:00 class teacher will escort students to the Sanctuary and sit together.  Return to class afterwards as a group

o   All students, parents and others are invited to the Sanctuary for our 10:10 Assembly.

  • Combined Practice for Graduation in Sanctuary of musicians only that perform  Agnus Dei or The Lord Bless You and Keep You
  • Teacher Luncheon at Noon in Room 102-103.  No official teacher meeting, but please enjoy lunch!!  If you have donated food for the potato bar, please leave it in the Asbury Kitchen.
  • Harp Ensemble meet in Room 150
  • 1:00  Beethoven musicians and graduates meet in Sanctuary to practice processional
  • Bach students bring your Movie Favorites and Broadway Favorites from home, if you already have one.  I will pass out books to those that need to purchase them and they will be added to your family fee folder.
  • Bel Canto students please look at your schedule to see if you could sing on Thursday, May 17 at Bambinos at 2810 E. Battlefield, near Battlefield and Lone Pine.  Meet at 11:30, Sing at 11:45.
  • 11:00 Advance Intermediate Orchestra Theory meet in the Music Room, next door to the Sanctuary.
  • Intermediate Band will meet directly after the assembly from 10:40-11:20 in their regular room, then go to theory until noon.
  • Select Wind Ensemble will meet from 11:20-11:50 in their regular room, then go to combined practice in the Sanctuary.
  • Singer’s 3rd year theory class will go upstairs to Room 206

ANNOUNCEMENTS for

AUGUST, 2016

I know everyone is in planning mode for the new year. Play and Sing His Praises is no exception and is also in planning mode. Please read over this very carefully for audition information and for descriptions of new classes. We are only having auditions on one day this year, August 19. I look forward to getting our new year underway as we continue to glorify God through our music ministry. Be sure to be prepared and practice for your upcoming auditions.!

NEW CLASS OFFERINGS
This year in the Band division we will be offering an 11:00 class for Select Wind Ensemble and a 2:45 class for Jazz Ensemble.

DETAILS:

We are thrilled at PSHP to announce we will have a weekly Select Winds Ensemble (classical – brass & woodwinds) & a weekly Select Jazz Ensemble (woodwinds, brass, & rhythm section) for PSHP 2016-2017!!

Attention Guitarists, Bassists, Pianists, and Harpists: We have slots for you! The Select Winds Ensemble (classical) has open slots for both a student pianist and harpist. The Select Jazz Ensemble has openings for rhythm electric guitar, bass guitar (electric or upright), drum set, and piano/keyboard.

The Select Winds Ensemble (classical) will be working on small chamber and ensemble pieces of a classical and/or hymn nature. They will also receive aid in preparing pieces for Federation contest such as solos and small ensembles. This group will stretch their knowledge of scales, musical expression, and playing in self-directed ensembles. The ensemble will consist of woodwinds, brass, harp, and piano. Additional performance venues may be available for this smaller ensemble. Please see the bands auditions list for audition information. (14 years and up)

The Select Jazz Ensemble will learn to play standard jazz pieces along with jazz/modern versions of hymns or praise songs. They will study jazz articulations, jazz chords, song structures, and begin learning improvisation (jazz soloing). This ensemble will consist of woodwinds, brass, electric rhythm guitar, bass, piano/keyboard, and drum set. Additional performance venues may be available for this smaller ensemble. I know everyone is in planning mode for the new year. Play and Sing His Praises is no exception and is also in planning mode. Please read over this very carefully for audition information and for descriptions of new classes. We are only having auditions on one day this year, August 19. NEW CLASS OFFERINGS
This year in the Band division we will be offering an 11:00 class for Select Wind Ensemble and a 2:45 class for Jazz Ensemble.

DETAILS:

We are thrilled at PSHP to announce we will have a weekly Select Winds Ensemble (classical – brass & woodwinds) & a weekly Select Jazz Ensemble (woodwinds, brass, & rhythm section) for PSHP 2016-2017!!

Attention Guitarists, Bassists, Pianists, and Harpists: We have slots for you! The Select Winds Ensemble (classical) has open slots for both a student pianist and harpist. The Select Jazz Ensemble has openings for rhythm electric guitar, bass guitar (electric or upright), drum set, and piano/keyboard.

The Select Winds Ensemble (classical) will be working on small chamber and ensemble pieces of a classical and/or hymn nature. They will also receive aid in preparing pieces for Federation contest such as solos and small ensembles. This group will stretch their knowledge of scales, musical expression, and playing in self-directed ensembles. The ensemble will consist of woodwinds, brass, harp, and piano. Additional performance venues may be available for this smaller ensemble. Please see the bands auditions list for audition information. (14 years and up)

The Select Jazz Ensemble will learn to play standard jazz pieces along with jazz/modern versions of hymns or praise songs. They will study jazz articulations, jazz chords, song structures, and begin learning improvisation (jazz soloing). This ensemble will consist of woodwinds, brass, electric rhythm guitar, bass, piano/keyboard, and drum set. Additional performance venues may be available for this smaller ensemble.
