Younger Beginner Violin Class

This week, please practice Essential Elements: Exercises 43, 64, 73, 86, 88, 89, 91, and 92.

Please practice especially hard on 91 and 92! These are quite difficult, and we are playing them at our concert next week, along with the other pieces listed above.

Also, please pay close attention to posture and bow holds.

If you have any questions on what part you should practice for 88, 89, 91, or 92, please feel free to contact me.

Intermediate Orchestra 5/6/16

March – Make sure your low 2s are in tune!
Faith of our Fathers
#188 – Cripple Creek – only 1X. 1sts = A part, 2nds and violas = B part, cellos = B part #182 – Surprise Symphony – Staccatos, low and high 2s, dynamics #168 – Arkansas Traveler
#142 – Variations
#138 – Tisket
#118 – Firoliralera

Intermediate orchestra 4/29/16

You all are sounding so good! Please work on all of our end of the year concert pieces:

Faith of our Fathers
March
118
138
142
168
182
183

On 188:
Take all repeats, then repeat the entire piece playing the opposite part (except cellos!). 1st violins play A then B
2nd violins play B then A
Violas play B then A
Cellos play the bottom line the entire time. (Sorry!)

On 182:
Play in the middle of the bow for your staccato notes. Do NOT play F# or C# except in measure 7. Dynamics are crucial in this pierce. There will be no surprise if we fail to observe dynamics!

Beginner and Advanced Intermediate classes practice your orchestra class assignments and continue working on your contest pieces.

Ensemble;
Arran Boat Song
This is sounding fantastic so far! Let’s get the second half learned and play it together this week. Counting is everything… and you’re doing a great job :)

Tara’s Hall
Danny Boy
Make these two pieces contrasting.

Intermediate Band Percussion

Practice the flam rudiments we circled on your sheets with a metronome. Make sure to raise the accented hand up higher than the softer note (and remember that the soft note comes just a little before the big accented one). Also, practice exercise #136 in your Essential Elements book. It has several of the flam rudiments in there, as well as a couple drags. And, of course, keep Tis So Sweet, You Will Be In My Heart, Chorale, and Shenandoah up to speed.
