            Practice shifting into 3^rd position

Keep your hand “frozen” as you slide your whole hand from 1^st to 3^rd position

            This book shows a Roman numeral above the notes to indicate what position you are in:

                        I=first position

                        III=third position

Sacred Settings:

1. 2  Come Thou Almighty King          Count carefully in measure 5
2. 12  Amazing Grace                         Keep your bow moving slow and heavy on long notes.  Don’t let the sound die away on long tied notes (ms. 7-8 and ms. 15-16)
3. 14  Nearer My God to Thee            Count the measures with the rests so that the long note gets 3 whole beats, then taper off. (ms. 4, ms. 8, and ms. 16)

Bonus Question:  What is the name of the bowing style that is used on Nearer, My God, to Thee in measures 7 and 15 on beats 3 and 4?  For a hint, look on p. 45 in your High Tech book.
