Juanita K. Hammons Hall is excited to kick off this season’s season’s Don and Betty Wessel Emerging Concert Artists series with soprano JULIA BULLOCK at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 13!

Originally from St. Louis, Ms. Bullock was a winner of the 2012 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the 2014 Naumburg International Vocal Competition, recipient of a 2015 Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship and Lincoln Center’s 2015 Martin E. Segal Award, and has been hailed as an “impressive, fast-rising soprano… poised for a significant career” (The New York Times).

Ms. Bullock integrates her musical life with community activism; she has organized benefit concerts for the Shropshire Music Foundation and International Playground, two non-profits that serve war-affected children and adolescents through music education and performance programs in Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Uganda, and St. Louis.

At Hammons Hall, Ms. Bullock will perform a variety of 19th & 20th century pieces for voice and piano, including selections by John Cage, Maurice Ravel, Edvard Grieg, Samuel Barber, Kurt Weill, and others. The concert will feature an intimate onstage seating arrangement, as well as a post-concert reception. Tickets are $21, and may be purchased at any MSU-TIX box office, by phone at 417-836-7678, or online at www.HammonsHall.com. Missouri State University students can purchase tickets in advance at ½ price, and any student, regardless of age or school affiliation, can take advantage of $10 student rush tickets at the box office beginning one hour before the performance.

The following day, on Wednesday, October 14, Ms. Bullock will present a master class on the Hammons Hall stage from 4:00-6:00pm. The master class is free and open to the public; five students have been pre-selected to sing and receive feedback, and any interested singers are welcome to attend and observe.
