Great job today! I am excited that we got to begin note reading in the book. This week, be sure to memorize the strings if you have not already done so.
Practice rest position and playing position. In rest position, your viola should be resting upright on your left thigh, strings facing out. Hold with your left hand.
For playing position, sit at the edge of your chair with both feet on the floor. Hold your viola between your collarbone and your jaw (on the left side!). Hold the viola body with your left hand to the right of the fingerboard (if you are looking down the strings to the scroll). The viola should be parallel to the ground. Do not point the scroll up or down.

In the Essential Elements book:
p. 4 and 5 – using pizzicato (pizz, plucking).
Remember when using pizzicato, you pizz with your index (1st) finger of your right hand. Thumb down touching the fingerboard. Take a look at Lesson 1 in your rhythm book.
