Percussion Ensemble Assignments for 9.15.2017
Practice the Table of Time sheet I handed out in class. In particular, practice with a metronome and switch between different note groupings that are difficult for you.
For example, try a measure of something comfortable (like eighth notes) and then a measure of something more difficult, like septuplets.
Reminders: We count quintuplets (the notes with a 5 above them) with the word “u-ni-ver-si-ty”, because it has 5 syllables, sextuplets by saying triplets twice (1 and uh 1 and uh), septuplets with the phrase “li-sten-to-the-ra-di-o”, and 32nd notes by saying 16th notes twice (1 e and uh 1 e and uh). Remember that, the way they are written on this particular sheet I handed out, all these bizarre note groupings have to fit into 1 beat. If you’re playing a quintuplet, you have to fit the word “university” into one beat evenly.
