We had a great second week of class! Please share the following information with your child, so he/she can work on it this week. As I told them in class, I would like for them to practice at least 15 minutes a day. That should help them get a great start to learning the violin!
Assignments:
Review the parts of the violin (Essential Elements, pg. 2).
Review the string names (from left to right) G, D, A, E (Essential Elements, pg. 3).
Practice sitting up straight in your chair, towards the edge, with your feet flat on the ground.
Practice holding the violin on your left shoulder (shoulder position), with your jaw in the chinrest, and your chin just in front of the chinrest. Make sure your head is not leaning over too much, and that the violin is not drooping down, nor pointing up in the air. Try to keep it about level. An example photo is shown on Essential Elements, pg. 3.
Practice plucking the strings in order from G to E, then from E to G. Keep your right thumb against the right edge of the fingerboard, and gently pull the string with your right index finger.
See you on Friday!
