Young Beginner Violin Class 10/23/15

This week:

Practice Essential Elements: exercises 16-19. Remember, keep all 3 fingers down for G, lift off your 3rd finger (up, like a rocket) to play F#, lift off both your 3rd and 2nd finger to play E, and lift off all three fingers to play open D. Make sure the correct fingers are on the correct tapes, , that they are pushing hard enough for a clear sound, and that they are right on top of the tapes. Also remember, keep your left wrist nice and straight, not flat against the neck. We don’t want to crush the spider!

Also practice your right hand bow hold on a pencil. Here is a picture of how it should look:

All the fingers, including the thumb should be curved. Remember, they are like wheels on a car. You want them to be round, so the car will move! Your middle finger and thumb should almost be touching. Also, there should be a slight gap separating your pinky and index finger from the two middle fingers. Try to make your hand look like the picture as much as possible, as a good bow hold is VERY important!

Bonus Question (answer on paper for TWO tickets): When practicing your bow hold, should the fingers on your left hand be straight or curved?

Good work everyone! Try to practice at least 15 minutes every day!
