Beginning Viola class 10/2/15

If you have not had a chance to get a shoulder rest or a sponge yet, please do so as soon as you are able. It is an extremely important tool in having good posture!

Essential Elements: p. 6 and #14 on p. 7. Memorize your fingerings and location on the staff for your new notes, G, F#, and E.

Left hand posture is so important! Make sure your left wrist is straight and that you have nice curved fingers. Do not allow the neck of the viola to sit in the crook of your hand (between thumb and first finger). This is where a shoulder rest/sponge is so important. It allows you to hold your viola up without holding it with your hand. See the picture below for the correct left hand position.
