Band: Intermediate Assignments for 9.14.2015

Intermediate Band from 9/7 for 9/14:

  2. Rhythm a week – Units 1-6
  3. Film Favorites – Rainbow Connection

We’ll have 4 weeks of Separate Classes, then alternate

We want to be in Book 2 by Christmas

Intermediate Band – Clarinet (only)
Handout – #2
     Every day warm up with #2.
          Deep Breath
          Fast Air
          Proper tonguing and slurring
          Big sound. Don’t be afraid of being squeaks.
          Accurate rhythms
          Accurate dynamics
Breathing Exercises – Practice taking deep breaths (breath in down to your belly button) and blowing out slowly. You should be able to play a minimum of 16 counts (four measures in 4/4 time) before needing a breath.
Essential Elements – P. 24-25
     Pay special attention to your new notes. Expect random note/fingering/playing (from assigned pages) tests in class.
Practice at least 5 times this week for 30 minutes each. I allow you to count breathing exercises and silent fingering as practice time but do spend most of your time playing on your instrument. You and your parents should read through this article on successful practice. together.
Come to class on time. Class starts promptly at 10. Please be in your seat and ready to play by10.
Bring all your materials to class. You MUST have your music books, your filled out (and signed!) practice card. a pencil, a stand (in excellent condition), your instrument, and a good attitude!
Concert dates. Be sure to check and double-check the concert dates (handout from registration day) and get those on the calendar. Our first concert is December 7 at Asbury from 10-12:45. It is vital to the band as a team that every member is prepared and present. New calendars may be picked up at the Information Table in the foyer.
